One Rainy Evening…

Us city dwellers have a complicated relationship with the rain. We long for rain because it ensures our regular water supply and brings some sorely needed touch of green to our concrete jungle. Not to mention giving us a welcome respite from the scorching heat and dust of the summer months. But the rain also turns our roads into gutters, makes commuting an ordeal and disrupts travel plans (more about that later). Yes, yes, I’m well aware that heavy rainfall can create havoc for those who live with the threat of flooding, cloudbursts, landslides and other related man-made disasters, compared to which us city dwellers have it relatively easy. But this post is about a rainy evening on a beach and how a beach doesn’t have to be sunny to be beautiful.

A view of Kudle beach from atop.
Not bright and sunny but with a hint of the approaching rain.
It was green and serene and clouds were hovering over the horizon.
I love how the water reflected the nearby hills.
Pretty soon the sky turned grey and the rain came down.
We scurried to take shelter in a nearby shack and watched the rain falling on the sea.It was somehow soothing.
But someone was more interested in getting home and decided to brave the rain!
As were some others! (To the left was the main entrance/exit of the beach)
I watched and wondered when she would get home and what would be waiting for her there… household chores? dinner to be cooked?
Some intrepid folks enjoying the dunking in the rain and the sea!
Fresh fish on the menu tonight?
He was still seated on his rocky perch when we walked away.
Looking seaward.
The sky was clearing up as we tracked our way over the rain-soaked sand, making a satisfying squelch with each step.
See you again Sea, sometime. I hope!
